Story time for grown-ups

I’m not the first parent to say bedtime story time rocks, mostly because of the bedtime part, but the Lawrence Arts Center’s Story Slam is nothing like that quiet cuddly time. No books, no kids, just a beer in hand and great storytellers at the mic. Here’s how it works: Would-be participants throw their names into a hat. A lucky 10 get picked and have up to 8 minutes to tell their stories on stage. But not just any story. Every evening has a theme, be it school, freaks, cars, X—get a taste from KJHK-90.7FM. The next and last Story Slam of 2010 starts at 7p on Friday, Nov. 12, and it’s all about food and drink. Got a crazy tequila story? A kitchen disaster or triumph? Your own Andrew Zimmern adventure? Come and tell it, and let the audience decide whose is best. Then let’s hope host and creator David Hollond puts more on the schedule for 2011.
