Kansas City Star Rocks
This just in from Jill Silva, food editor of the Kansas City Star, who’s attending the Association of Food Journalists conference in Charleston: we won! Silva’s article on food deserts (“Far Away From Food”) topped the Best Newspaper Special Food Project category; the piece has also been included in Best Food Writing 2011.
“35 People, Places and Things That Make Us Drool,” a collaboration between Silva and Cindy Hoedel, was the third place Best Newspaper Special Food Project entry. And me? My Cocktails & Spirits column earned second in the Best Newspaper Food Column division. Which columns did I offer up for judgment? One on how single malt Scotch whisky has changed in recent years (Taming the Whisky Jungle) and another on elderflower liqueurs (Elderflowers Create the ‘New’ Go-To Cordial); both ran in early 2010.
Hurrah!

Congrats!
Thank you everyone for your kind comments!
Congratulations to all of you. We’ve enjoyed reading and checking out the places you’ve all featured. Well done.
